Every Luz Arcana is made by hand in our studio in Bisbee, Arizona, a few at a time. We pour the wax, place the botanicals, and set the crystal ourselves. The petals land where they land. The daisy sits a little left or a little right. The stone catches the light its own way.

So yours will not match the photo exactly, and it won't match anyone else's. That is the point. Each one is a small, original piece made for the person who warms it.

How it works

Warm it. Read the intention.
Then breathe.

A Luz Arcana candle is made for a warmer plate or a candle lamp warmer. The warmth melts the top of the wax, at 115–125°F, and releases the scent without a flame. Never light it; there is no wick.

  • Set the candle on its plate, or under a candle lamp warmer, and switch it on
  • Read the intention. Watch the stone catch the light.
  • Come back to this moment. That's the practice.
  • The crystal is heavy, so it sinks into the wax as the candle melts.
  • To take it out, scoop it from the melted wax with a spoon and wipe it clean. It's yours to keep. Refill Oils follow in January 2027.

Meet Luccas, LhaMi and Benito. We love our pets more than we can say. They're part of the family, so please note: although our products are natural, some essential oils can be harmful to pets.

Candles made with those oils carry a pet note. Keep pets away from the warmer and the melted wax, and never let them eat the wax, the crystal or the botanicals.

Luz Arcana is Spanish for hidden light.

It's there — in all of us. Sometimes life can dim it. We are all going through something; I know I am. Luz Arcana is a reminder of that light we are seeking — so together, we can all shine bright.

It began with a gift

My dear friend Sarah was homebound after major back surgery and in constant pain, so I bought a candle-making kit to take her mind off it, even for a minute. We made candles together, and I loved it so much that when I got home, I bought a kit for my mom and me. Pouring the wax, choosing the botanicals, working with the essential oils became my happy place, my time of peace. The more candles I made and gave to the people I love, the more joy it gave back. It was never meant to be a business.

Then one day, Julie and I got to talking. What if I actually made this a business? — and she said: add crystals. My God moment. My three favorite things, finally together: scented candles, botanicals, and the magic of a crystal. I could not have done any of this without Sarah, Julie, and Fisher. That is the community this candle comes from.

Get out of your head — intentional living

We live anxious, scrolling, braced for the next thing. Luz Arcana is an invitation to intentional living — a small, deliberate practice to return to each day. Set the candle beneath the warmer, read its intention, watch the crystal catch the light, and breathe. The product is a candle; the practice is presence.

The story continues

I have known Nina since I was four years old. More than fifty years later, when I told her I was moving to Bisbee, Arizona, to build Luz Arcana — and admitted how frightened I was — there she was, two days after I arrived. She came to stand beside her friend. And when I felt my best chapters were behind me, Nina reminded me that we were only just getting started.

Then came Rafa — my friend of more than twenty-seven years — to help put it all together with Miriam and Ramon and me: the wise advice, the website, content, the Shopify store. We have had a ball doing it.

It just gets better

When I rented the little house in Bisbee, Arizona, the owners — Ramon and Miriam — met me with open arms. My mother's name is Miryam; across from my door sits a big metal pig, my mom's favorite thing. Another little wink from heaven. When I shared the Luz Arcana overview with them, their response brought me to tears. They believed what I believe: the importance of living with positive intentions. And so began our business partnership — proof that Luz Arcana has, from the very first day, been built on love and community.

Luz Arcana always asks the same question — "What's your intention?" A rival can copy a scent or a vessel; no one can copy a community that sets intentions together.

Why Bisbee, Arizona

I had never been to Bisbee, Arizona.

Having lived in almost every major city in the country, I knew exactly what a new home — and a new business — needed: peace, good weather, somewhere safe, and room to take root.

How I chose it

DC, New York, Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco — I have lived in almost every major city in this country, and I spent most of my career on the road. By the time Luz Arcana was ready to become a real business, I knew what I wanted from a home: peace, good weather, somewhere safe, and a place where a new business could actually take root.

So I did what you do. I researched. I looked high and low, and I watched every YouTube video about Bisbee, Arizona, I could find — a small copper-mining town tucked into the Mule Mountains, a mile high, houses climbing the hillsides, streets that are more staircase than road. It looked charming. It looked like the place. So I went for it, sight unseen.

So glad I did

The people, the town, the history — the quiet peace of it — turned out to be the perfect home for Luz Arcana. This is a town that makes you slow down and come back to the present, which is exactly what these candles are for. Every one is hand-poured here, in small batches, with the same unhurried attention this town taught me. And the people who showed up for me — neighbors who became partners and family — are poured into every candle too.

Brought back to life by artists

When the copper mine closed in the 1970s, Bisbee, Arizona, could have emptied out. Instead, artists moved into the old miners' houses and storefronts and brought the town back to life — galleries, studios, murals, music — and they are still its heartbeat. I never considered myself artistic, especially looking at the work around me, but I am inspired here every day. Luz Arcana is my small part of that.

Only months in, I am convinced Arizona is the most underrated state in the country — it really does have A to Z.

Questions
Do I light it?

No. There is no wick. Set it on a warmer plate or under a candle lamp warmer and the warmth releases the scent. Never put a flame to it.

Will mine look exactly like the photo?

No, and we hope you'll love that. Every candle is poured, dressed and finished by hand in Bisbee, Arizona. The botanicals land where they land and the crystal sits where we set it, so each one is a little different from the last.

How long does the scent last?

The wax is never burned, so it isn't used up; the essential oils are. How long that takes depends on how often and how warm you run it. When the scent is spent, refresh it with a Refill Oil from January 2027, or reorder a new intention.

What happens to the crystal?

The crystal is heavy, so it sinks into the wax as the candle melts. To take it out, scoop it from the melted wax with a spoon and wipe it clean. It's yours to keep.

What's in the wax?

Coconut-soy wax with over 30 ml of natural essential oils and extracts in every 9.5 oz pour, dried botanicals, and one crystal. No paraffin, no synthetic fragrance, no tint. Vegan. Crystals and botanicals are decorative, not for ingestion.

Are the candles safe around pets?

Some of our essential oils can harm pets. Pet Poison Helpline lists eucalyptus and pine oils among those that can poison cats and dogs, and peppermint and citrus oils among those that can poison cats. Our orange, lemon and bergamot scents are citrus oils. Those candles carry a pet note: Health & Healing, Abundance & Prosperity, Clarity, Grounding & Resilience, Success & Ambition and Renewal & New Beginnings, plus any Custom candle made with those scents. A warmed candle gives off scent, not oil droplets, but keep pets away from the warmer and the melted wax, and never let them eat the wax, the crystal or the botanicals.

When does my order ship?

Soft launch November 3: preorders open for everything, all six Limited Drops included. Hard launch November 11. The Signature 8 ships from November 10 and Custom candles from November 15, in order of purchase. The Limited Drops ship on their dates: Vanilla and Remembrance on November 15, three on December 1, Lemon on December 15.

Shipping and the plate

By order size: $17.91 for one candle and $20.97 for two by USPS Ground Advantage (2–5 business days, $100 insurance); $22.95 for three or four and $33.93 for five or more by USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate (1–3 business days). FedEx Home Delivery ($37.98) and FedEx 2Day are also available at checkout, paid in full by the customer. The first 500 on the list get a free warmer plate; after that it's $8 with one candle and free with any two.

Returns and refunds

Custom candles are made to order just for you, so they are non-refundable. With any candle, we want you happy. If you're not, send it back and let us make it right. We'll include a return label.
